Melbourne’s Closing Panel Discussion: Is Business Analysis the profession of the future?
Hugh Peterken will host a panel of practitioners and thought leaders on a forward looking journey into the future of the business analysis profession. The panel will examine what value business analysts provide to business and how successful the profession is at delivering on expectations.
The panel will then introduce perspectives on where business is going and ask how that changes the equation for business analysts. They will explore ideas on how the profession needs to adapt and what this means for individual. Finally they will ask about culture, personalities and soft skills and how they are going to influence this journey.
Facilitator: Hugh Peterken – President, IIBA Australia Chapter
Hugh Peterken is the President of International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®) Australia Chapter. He is an experienced business leader who actively promotes business analysis for improving business performance. He has 20 years’ experience in senior and executive management roles and is internationally recognised as an expert in information technology and business process. Hugh started his career as an electronics engineer, working in the UK and in Australia for Telstra. After 20 years’ of engineering experience he moved into information technology as Chief Information Officer for The International Red Cross based in Geneva. Back in Australia he was the Chief Information Officer for the largest health service in Queensland before transitioning to consulting, with a focus on business analysis.
Panelist: Ken Fulmer – President and CEO, IIBA International
Ken Fulmer is currently the President and CEO of IIBA. Ken has been a long time senior IT executive with several major corporations holding roles as CTO and CIO. His primary skill is the ability to blend technology with business (people, process, technology and data) and create strategic business outcomes. Ken has managed enterprise PMO and BA-COE programs and as Chief Technology Officer has been involved in technology in both information applications, architecture, and in more digital technology in manufacturing and retail.
Ken has also served as an executive advisor for several energy companies, in strategic initiatives and acquisitions. Ken is active in SIM and the Senior Executive Group organization, giving him the opportunity to interact with other senior executives at major corporations.
Ken has a BA degree from LaSalle University, an MBA degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and postgrad programs at MIT. He is on the board of several non-profits and past chairman of the board of IIBA.
Panelist: Jared Gorai – Director of Regions & Chapters, IIBA International
Jared Gorai is a senior Business Analyst with more than 20 years experience in Business Management. His experience includes business leadership, operations management, strategic and IT planning, work shop facilitation, as well as the establishment of a Business Analysis Centre of Excellence. He has elicited and managed requirements for projects of various sizes ($50k to over $25 million).
During his time as a business analyst and a business manager, Jared has proven his abilities to effectively lead teams to drive results whether in requirements management, process improvement, or operational excellence. He led a small team of Business Analysts in creating grass roots driven Business Analyst Centre of Excellence to implement and support industry best practices as defined by International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®).
Panelist: Nick Mescher – Senior Managing Partner Digital Transformation, DXC Technology
An industry leader with over 30 of experience, Nick is passionate about helping organisations harness the power of innovation to thrive on change. His extensive experience in consulting enables him to guide clients on their digital transformation journeys with the latest technology offerings and solutions.
Nick has a Bachelor of Applied Science from Monash University and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Panelist: Simon Wilkinson – Head of Technology, Digital Sales Experience at ANZ
Simon is an experienced technical CTO with strong roots in customer engagement, proven skills in stakeholder management and innovative design solutions. He is passionate about creating great software and design solutions to solve high level business needs. In doing so he understands that the high level goals need to be grounded in customer needs. To that end he also manages and has developed a customer engagement process that is the envy of many of his peers.
Having a background in Computer Science and strong presentation skills developed through early stages in his career, Simon brings a rare mix to the table, a confident technical communicator. He is interested in Big Data, Innovation, Startups and Agile frameworks for software development.
